The heart and soul of depth psychology is difficult to learn from a book. The practitioner’s intimate, lived relationship to the depths is crucial in their preparation to witness and guide others toward the path of a soulful life. This course is for practitioners who wish to learn about the depths through personal exploration while learning practical skills to enhance their work with others.
This experiential and embodied course will approach the work through various portals – the body, creative arts, imagination, and dreams. In combination with assigned readings and discussions, participants will engage in a range of creative learning modules designed to evoke curiosity and experimentation while building confidence to guide others through creative practices.
The course begins with an overview of Jung’s map of the psyche and the basic tenants of depth psychology. From there, we will explore the power of symbols as they emerge from the imagination and learn creative methods for engaging with them. Next we take on the topic of Shadow – those aspects of a person that live just outside of awareness, often causing distress. Dream Work is next as participants practice various methods for engaging dream material and exploring its relevance to ones daily living. Following the dream, we will enter the realm of embodied imagination, exploring the nuance of somatic consciousness and the riches hidden within. The last topic is Anima/Animus, the deep interior where soul figures act as a bridge to the Collective Unconscious, the Great Unknowable. Finally, we will integrate our learning through an honorable closure practice.
